In this chapter...

Do you fear the unknown? In her chapter, I Will Fear No Evil, Georgia Schmeichel addresses how she learned to face disturbing aspects of life with confidence. She relates the ways the Good Shepherd guides us if we let Him:

  • Protecting

    He never leaves us alone.

  • Caring for us

God is love, and everything He does comes from that love.

  • Lighting our way

    He knows everything about us.

About The Author

Georgia Schmeichel

My name is Georgia Schmeichel, and I’m a follower of Jesus, wife, mom, Grammy/Mimi, author, former teacher, jeans mender, and avid reader. I grew up in a Christian family where I regularly attended church, but I didn’t accept Jesus' saving grace until one summer at Bible camp when I was fifteen. Two years later, I sensed a call to become a high school English teacher, but my true passion was following Jesus’ example and writing stories with a message. As a self-described procrastinator and non-multitasker, I waited thirty-three years until I retired from teaching to write a novel, My Portion Forever. Rural South Dakota is my home, where my husband and I live within driving and walking distance of our son’s and two daughters’ families. We enjoy living in the wide-open spaces of South Dakota and cherish visits from our 14 lively and wonderful grandchildren.

What People Are Saying

Georgia’s story is honest, reflective, and full of hope. This chapter hit me deeply. I saw myself in her journey. Questioning, growing, being gently led by God even when I didn’t realize it. Her words remind us that even in the darkest valleys, the Shepherd is near. You’ll finish this chapter feeling seen, cared for, and reminded that you’re never walking alone.

This is a beautiful story about one woman's journey from childhood to mature adulthood alongside her Shepherd. Georgia shares how, early in her life, she was drawn to Psalm 23:4. The knowledge that the Shepherd was with her during all of life's challenges—such as loneliness, change, illness, and the unknown—sustained her. Her narrative includes a touching poem that captures the deep emotions she experienced during that time. She concludes her story with a helpful activity for those going through difficult periods in their lives. If you seek inspiration and hope for your own journey, I highly recommend reading Georgia's story.

Georgia's story is a powerful reminder that even in life's darkest valleys, we are never truly alone. For anyone who has ever questioned God's goodness during uncertain times, this chapter offers deep encouragement and hope. With tender honesty, Georgia shares how God revealed Himself as the Good Shepherd: guiding, comforting, and providing for her through every twist and turn of her journey.

As someone who has walked through my own dark valleys, I found myself deeply moved. Her testimony reminded me that even when we can't see the way forward, God is always near, working behind the scenes, holding us close.

Let Georgia's story refresh your heart and strengthen your faith in this season. Her words speak life to weary souls.

I hear you and I hear the Lord with you and the Holy Spirit. Thank you for taking the time and the stillness to write. The impact for me is significant and comes in this moment. I need it.

I love the way you tell your story and invite me in to find my place in it or where my story overlaps or intersects. In that same way, each verse you quote becomes part of my treasury of experience, and food for the time of stillness and contemplation.

Rich, images and the beauty of the love of God for His children. That picture you paint with words is incredibly complex and simple in the same moment. And it fills the room with the wealth of what we are given.
