He Tenderly Picked Me Up

I’m a rule follower because I learned at a young age that life is more peaceful if I follow the rules. Does this mean that I’m perfect or never do anything wrong? Hardly! I’ve had episodes in my life that I wish I could redo because I made poor choices. I learned from my mistakes, and I’m grateful that God doesn’t love me less when I make mistakes. He might be sad, and I deeply regret that.

As a parent, grandparent, and former teacher, I know that the rules I impose are not meant to cause anyone suffering or to quash their fun.  Just the opposite, I want those I’m guiding to be safe and happy. God is much more loving and just than I am, so He certainly doesn’t decree rules that inflict pain. His rules lovingly steer us to the best possible outcome in life. Like a loving father, He wants what’s best for His children. He’s given us the guidebook; all we must do is follow it.

Only very selfish and misguided authorities issue edicts that harm others. Those rules should be revoked, but God’s laws are just and guide us to a peaceful life. Even though He told me the rules, I can’t count the times He’s tenderly picked me up after I tripped and fell. Thank you, Lord, for your patience and love!

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”

John 15: 9-11 RSV

If you're feeling disappointed in the poor choices you have made in your life, can I remind you that God loves you? He is patient and kind. Run to His arms today, He will gently restore you.
