Solid Ground

I have Multiple Sclerosis, or so “they” tell me. It’s an official doctor’s diagnosis, but my symptoms aren’t the traditional ones. I have at least one of the icky side effects of MS, which is Trigeminal Neuralgia. My trigeminal nerve has been surgically damaged, so I don’t have a problem with that, for now. Someday it will heal, and the pain will roar back, but for now, my only other symptom is a problem with balance when I walk.

Walking is the subject of this post. I generally use a cane when I walk anywhere outside my home, because my feet know the floors in my house. That may sound a little unusual so let me explain. If I’m walking in an unfamiliar area where the terrain is uneven, I tend to easily lose my balance. Therefore, a cane comes in handy to steady me from taking a tumble. That’s embarrassing and sometimes hurts! I also have a problem when I walk in the dark. If I can’t see my feet or the surface under my feet, I’m unsteady and hesitant. This might be a typical MS symptom because the doctor who diagnosed me told me to walk in front of her with my eyes closed. I failed that part of the test.

These are just the circumstances of my life, and I’ve adjusted to them as much as I can. One aspect of my life that is on solid ground, however, is my walk with Jesus. As long as I let Him be my light and my foundation, I know that even if I stumble, He’ll catch me.

“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life’”

John 8:12 NIV

“He lifted me out of the pit of destruction, out of sticky mud. He stood on a rock and made my feet steady.”

Psalm 40:2 NCV

May you find yourself on solid ground today, no matter what your circumstances are.
